Watch YouTube video and learn to make mandala:

Applications of mandala art:

A number of beautiful creations can be done with mandala art.

  • How about a wall art?

You can use mandala in decorating your walls. These look absolutely beautiful and give a traditional look to your home.

  • Wall-hangings:

You can place mandala paintings as wall-hangings. The same as wall-art but you can place them anywhere as you like.

  • Hand-painted Jewellery box:

A mandala can make a jewellery box unique. It can be an ideal gift for anyone you love.

  • Mandala flower vases:

Interesting and unique these flower vases can be a cool stuff to sell. Consider making it for craft fairs or as gift.

  • More cool stuff:

You can use mandala in Stone art to decorate your garden. These also go well with cushion cover, book-cover, cards, table mats, and curtains.

What you will need?

You will need the following:

  • An ivory sheet 12”*16” – it’s the ideal size for small wall art however, you may start off with any paper and size
  • Colour-pens with 5mm tip- usually 5mm tip can create a clear and beautifully detailed mandala so consider using a fine tip pen if 5mms are not available.
  • Compass- for making circles
  • Pencil, eraser, and other stationery

How to make it?

When you have gathered all supplies, let’s move to the creation part!

  • You can start off with drawing circles from a source point with the help of compass. Draw neat and light circles with pencil so you can erase it off later.
  • Start drawing some more levels of concentric circles till you like. Try to keep them at a good distance. You don’t want to get things messy.
  • Now start with the filling process. Make abstract patterns that you like- loops, triangles, etc. You may use any colour or a black ink – whatever you like.
  • You can fill these with water-colours, crayons, or colour-pens whatever feel good.

Some Important tips:

  • You may want to try mandala with textured or color paper but when you are trying at colored background use black or blue inks only to make designs. Using a variety of color there can spoil the look.
  • Draw designs using fine tip pens for detailing and clearer look.
  • Align designs in symmetry. You know, everything that falls in symmetry makes it beautiful.
  • If you are not sure if your circles look right then you can try using polar graph sheets or you can trace them on your sheet by carbon sheets.

I hope you are going to try making a mandala. I bet you will love it. Comment below and join in discussion for any queries. Here I conclude my episode with a question: what would you like to make using these mandalas?
